The ten year census is much more than just a head count. It provides a picture of our nation that helps determine where to build new schools, hospitals, and businesses. It helps determine how and where federal funding is distributed. Annually, over $675 billion dollars in federal and state funds are distributed to communities based on the census count numbers. It is also used in building congressional, state and local elected official boundaries. This is why having an accurate count is so important!
Response: In 2020, for the first time every, the US Census Bureau will accept responses online, by mail or by phone!

The City of Brookfield supports the 2020 Census and encourages all residents to participate by completing the 2020 Census Survey.
Confidential and Secure: Strict federal law protects your census response. It is against the law for any Census Bureau employee to disclose or publish any census information that identifies an individual or business. Census Bureau employees take a lifelong pledge of confidentiality to handle data responsibly and keep respondent's information private. The penalty for wrongful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment for up to five (5) years, or both. No law enforcement agency can access your personal information at any time. Data collected may only be used for statistical purposes to help inform important decisions such as how much federal funding your community receives.
